Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, allegedly expressed his desire to lighten his workload to top executives.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, is allegedly overworked and wants to lighten his workload. According to the article, the CEO, who turns 65 in November 2025, is thinking of leaving his job to live a more sedate life. Since Steve Jobs’ replacement is one of Silicon Valley’s longest-serving CEOs, his departure may be especially difficult for the business. Cook is reportedly shortlisting a number of people to take his position, though.
There are rumors that Tim Cook may resign
The New York Times reports that Apple has been working on Tim Cook’s succession plans since late last year. The article stated that Cook has informed top executives that he is weary of his present duties and would want to lighten his schedule, citing three anonymous people close to the firm. There are rumors that he will become the chairman of Apple’s board if he decides to leave his position as CEO.
According to reports, Cook is grooming a number of internal candidates to succeed him as CEO, and it is doubtful that the business will select an external candidate. Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple; Eddy Cue, senior vice president of services; Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of worldwide marketing; and Deirdre O’Brien, senior vice president of retail and people, are among the selected contenders.

But according to the source, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus is the most probable candidate to succeed Cook. He was promoted to his present position in 2013 after joining the company’s Product Design team in 2001. Over the past ten years, he has been in charge of the hardware engineering for every device the business has produced, including the iPad, iPhone, and AirPods. Additionally, he is reportedly a pivotal figure in the tech giant’s continuous switch from Mac to Apple silicon.
According to the article, Ternus was also responsible for Apple’s approach of making the iPhone Pro models more costly and feature-rich than the non-Pro variants, which was first observed in 2019 with the iPhone 11 series. Cook is a member of the company’s board, which will choose the next CEO.
