During the ongoing upgrade of mobile Assistant devices to Gemini, Google has sought users for comments and ideas.

Google has acknowledged that it has postponed its intention to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on most Android phones by the end of the year. The corporation now claims it requires additional time to ensure a smooth transition. Since the launch of Gemini, it has been assumed that Google Assistant would be phased out of several platforms. In recent months, the Gemini has taken over several of Assistant’s tasks, including as smart device control. Google is also planning to expand Gemini to include tablets, vehicles, headphones, watches, and other devices.

Google Gemini will eventually replace Assistant on most Android phones by 2026

Earlier this year, Google announced intentions to upgrade Assistant to Gemini on the majority of mobile devices by the end of 2025. Now, in a fresh update on its Support site, the company stated that it is modifying that schedule to guarantee a “smooth transition.” Google says it will continue to work on upgrading Assistant users to Gemini on mobile devices through 2026. The corporation, however, could not provide a specific timeline.

Google will provide additional information about the transition in the coming months. Throughout the transition, the organization has also encouraged consumers to provide feedback and suggestions.

Many devices have already switched from Google Assistant to Gemini, and Google expects to upgrade more customers in the coming months. By 2026, Google Assistant will no longer be available on most mobile devices or through app stores.

Google has also stated that tablets, vehicles, headphones, watches, and other connected devices will receive Gemini updates. The Gemini-powered experience will be accessible through home devices such as smart speakers, screens, and televisions. The Google Assistant was introduced in 2016 to provide hands-free voice help.

The search giant launched Gemini integration for Android smartphones in 2024, and the Gemini app is currently accessible on Android phones in over 200 countries, with support for more than 40 languages. The software includes a variety of capabilities, including music playback, timer settings, and lock screen action. Google just released an AI Video Verification Tool for the Gemini app and website.
