OpenAI’s AI-powered coding assistant, Codex, gained Skills last week.
It’s possible that OpenAI may soon introduce a new functionality to ChatGPT that will remove the need for repeated reminders and instructions. The San Francisco-based AI behemoth unveiled Skills to Codex, its AI-powered coding agent for developers, last week. It is available on a specific platform. This functionality, along with a Skills editor and the ability to turn a custom GPT into a skill, may soon be added to ChatGPT, according to a tipster. Users may save a lot of time using this functionality.
OpenAI May Add Capabilities to ChatGPT
Tibor Blaho, Lead Engineer at AIRPM, stated in a post on X (previously Twitter) that OpenAI intends to add Skills to ChatGPT after Codex. Custom instructions or prompts that users may obtain by simply inputting a few shortcut letters are known as skills. This enables individuals to retrieve these particular instructions at any time, even after a new chat session has begun.
For example, instead of repeatedly inputting this instruction, one may construct a shortcut if they utilize ChatGPT for research and want to ensure that the AI always stays anchored to the words or URLs being supplied. The same may be done to force the chatbot to respond in paragraphs, refrain from using an em dash, or give answers in a predetermined word count.
When incorporating Skills in Codex, OpenAI adhered to Anthropic’s agentskills.io standard. By hitting the forward slash key and then the shortcut they have generated, users may activate this function. Because of this, the procedure is simple to use and straightforward. This might also be applied to ChatGPT.
Additionally, according to Blaho, OpenAI will include an abilities editor tool that allows users to review and alter previously established abilities. Furthermore, a second method that transforms custom GPTs into Skills might be included. In essence, GPTs are little chatbots that users may program to perform particular tasks. A GPT that writes literature, for example, will be adept at producing fiction in response to commands. One drawback of GPTs is that they can only be used in a set conversation. That barrier is removed by skills.
OpenAI hasn’t, however, formally declared or verified the feature’s existence. Until the corporation formally reveals or discloses Skills in chatgpt, we advise readers to treat the aforementioned information with caution.
