The first Samsung product to ever flunk JerryRigEverything’s durability test was the Galaxy Z TriFold.
The first triple-foldable foldable smartphone from the South Korean tech giant, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, was introduced in a few international countries last month. Despite Samsung’s boasts that the smartphone is extremely durable, a new durability test conducted by a well-known YouTuber indicates that it might not be as resilient as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, since the screen gave way during the bend test.
Compatibility Test on the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold
In his renowned durability series, which includes tests for scratch, fire, dirt, and bend resistance, Zack Nelson, host of the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel, put the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold to the test.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold began exhibiting scratches at level six on the Mohs hardness scale and deeper grooves at level seven using a razor blade, starting with the scratch resistance test of the cover screen, which is shielded by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. This is characteristic of a smartphone with regular glass rather than sapphire.
However, the durability test of the inner flexible screen—which is said to be composed of plastic—made things interesting. At level two, it showed minor scratches, and at level three, deeper indents were apparent. Nelson said that the screen might not be able to withstand scratches from fingernails, coins, keys, and other pointy things.
The fire resistance test came next. For around 17 seconds, the OLED cover screen could tolerate being burned with a lighter; after that, the pixels became golden-black and did not return. The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold‘s interior screen was much more brittle, lasting only ten seconds before the pixels started to burn. The main 10-inch screen did not return either, much as the cover display.

Nelson applied a mouthful of dirt to the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold‘s primary screen during the dirt resistance test. The foldable’s hinge mechanism began to make cracking and crunching sounds as soon as the dirt particles were moved. Additionally, there was a noticeable accumulation of dust on the screen where the internal magnets are located.
But the bend test was the high point. The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold failed to withstand bending in all directions, in contrast to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The phone flexed and became permanently disfigured when the YouTuber initially bent it from one of its corners. When the foldable phone was bent backward, the screen went dark and there was a loud shattering sound.
The antenna lines seemed to be the weakest area of the Galaxy Z TriFold, where the break initially happened, even though it had an Armor Aluminum frame. Nelson stated that although the phone’s hinges held up, the main reason for the break was the thickness—or lack thereof—of the frame.
The YouTuber claims that the Galaxy Z TriFold was the first Samsung product to ever fail his durability test.
