Both third-party and Apple-certified chargers are believed to cause the problem.
At its Fall event in September, Apple unveiled the iPhone 17 series. Sales figures for the series, particularly the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, have surpassed initial projections due to high demand. However, owners of both versions have been complaining in recent months about an odd hissing or static-like sound coming from the speaker in specific situations. Several forums claim that Apple has been informed about the issue but has not yet provided a formal schedule for a resolution.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max Static Noise
An increasing number of Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max customers are experiencing an odd static-like noise or hiss from the speaker when charging, according to several user conversations and concerns on Reddit. Some have compared the sound to an antique radio’s static or a low-pitched hiss emanating from the bottom speaker.
Owners who are impacted claim that the problem mostly arises when the phone is plugged in and being charged using both third-party and MFI (Made for Apple) chargers. Although the static noise was reported to be less loud than when connected in via a wire, it was still experienced when utilizing MagSafe.

According to other Reddit threads, the static noise was audible even when there was no music playing or the level was at zero. Others observed it while engaging in basic tasks like scrolling. The sound is said to go away when the iPhone is unplugged. It appears to vary in strength, with the problem being more noticeable in calmer settings.
Apple has been informed of the problem, according to an October post on the Apple community forum. A user was told to do comprehensive hardware diagnostics by a senior support engineer, however this did not stop the static noise. The consumer was given the choice to either replace the phone or wait for a future update.
The Apple worker allegedly informed the customer, “They are working to release a software update.” However, further entries on Reddit and the Apple community site make it clear that the problem has not been resolved by the latest iOS 26 upgrades.
